Patterns of Seed Dispersal in Coastal Dune Plant Communities

چکیده
Seed dispersal is a key determinant of species distribution, although it still unclear how contributes to assembly in plant communities. We linked patterns seed coexisting investigate the role process. focused on 19 foredune community, classified as “foredune foundation species”, “semi-fixed dune species,” and “alien species”. The number seeds dispersed by was monitored monthly 25 plots for 12 months. Then we compared both strategies phenology among species. Foredune species, semi-fixed dune, alien used same strategies, with exception hemerochory, which prevalently three groups differentiated season: were early late dispersers, respectively (spring vs. summer), while summer. Seasonal differentiation may play more important process than vectors. Shifts seasonality due climate change influence timing provide different colonization opportunities.

Endozoochorous seed dispersal of plant species in semi-steppe rangelands
During last two decades studies on endozoochorous seed dispersal indicated that a large numbers of plant seeds are potentially dispersed and suceefully germinated via animal dung. However, very little is known about the relative importance of endozoochory in germination success of plant species in semi-steppe rangelands. In this paper we examined dung germinating seed content, seed deposition p...

متن کاملSeed mass, shape, and persistence in the soil seed bank of Israeli coastal sand dune flora
Question: Are seed mass and shape related to persistence in the soil seed bank among 54 species of the Israeli flora? Search method: Persistence was determined by soil seed bank investigations in which the fraction of non-germinated viable seeds was regarded as the persistent soil seed bank. When seedling emergence had ceased but before new seeds were shed, all soil from the upper 5 cm of 120 q...
متن کاملConstraints on coastal dune invasion for a notorious plant invader
Although most biological invasions are not successful, relatively few studies have examined otherwise notorious invaders in systems where they are not highly problematic. The annual grass Bromus tectorum is a dominant invader in western North America, but is usually confined to human-dominated and disturbed systems (e.g. roadsides and parking lots) in the East where it remains virtually unstudi...
